Mohammed Omran from the UAE is Chairman of the telecoms service provider Etisalat, an FT Global 500 company and the sixth largest firm in the Middle East according to market cap. Having joined the company in 1977, just one year after it was founded, Mohammed quickly rose up the ranks from Area Manager, to Deputy General Manager and then Executive Vice President before finally being named CEO in 2004. Under his leadership Etisalat has been named ‘best telecommunications company in the Middle East five times over the last three years, as well as being awarded ‘best international carrier’ at the 2008 World Communications Awards. From 1997 onwards he has also held the post of Chairman for Thuraya, one of the world’s leading, satellite mobile communication systems spanning almost two thirds of the planet. Mohammed graduated from Cairo University in 1977 with an engineering degree in Electronics & Communications and has emerged as one of the telco industry’s leading figures, recognised for his contribution to the sector by the Abu Dhabi Economic Forum, Telecom Middle East Awards and Comms MEA Awards. |
