One Civilization

 

“One Civilization” is the title of the translated books series in respect of the development thought matters. The series opens to the entire world with its different languages and knowledge schools in terms of all that is new and worth knowing as Arabs.

 

The Arab Thought Foundation concluded an agreement with the famous French foundation “La Découverte” that assigned the Arab Thought Foundation to translate the important book “The State of the World– 2008” in recognition for its cultural mission. Then, the title “One Civilization” was chosen based on the fact that there were various cultures yet human civilization remained only one.
The series has begun with the book “The State of the World - 2008” whose first chapter included a set of studies and research by several specialists about the most important matters and phenomena of the year 2007. The second part included an amazing rich and diversified set of figures, tables, and data related to all countries in terms of their development levels in the humanitarian, cultural, educational, economic, and commercial … fields.
The book “The State of the World - 2008” is issued systematically on an annual basis since 1981. It contained in 2008 a series of important subjects including: international system, World Bank, Russian ambition, climate, desertification, drugs, Euro, digital era, environment, emerging powers, economic power of China, and health… etc.
Recently, the book “The State of the World– 2009” was issued in mid July 2009. It addressed with its data, tables, and figures the developmental rates of 2008 and sometimes of the last 10 years. The book contained 5 main titles diagnosing the world’s situations through 52 articles: New International Relationships, Economic and Social Issues, Societies and Human Development, Environment and Modern Technology, and Regional Challenges, with the participation of more than 30 researchers in the different knowledge fields.
It is mentioned that the Arab version prepared by the Arab Thought Foundation is different from the French version as it adds the statistical tables to the paper version, which are available in the French version electronically only.
